We often hear that it’s the little things that make a difference in saving the environment. Recycle your plastic water bottles, stop using straws and change your lightbulbs to power-saving versions. These are great things to incorporate into your everyday lifestyle, there are far more effective ways to help the environment. Transportation is near the top of the list.
A study by Lund University identified the top things that we can do to reduce our carbon footprint. The report says that one of the best ways to live a green life is to go car-free. For some, that may mean walking or using public transit, but that also means biking. Not only are you cyclists getting exercise and staying healthy, but you’re also saving the environment.
Here are the study’s life changes that had a high impact on reducing carbon gas emissions:
- Have a small family
- Go car-free
- Don’t use air travel
- Become plant-based
- Use green energy like solar panels and windmills
- Use an electric car
They also identified things we can do that are positive but are moderate to low impact:
- Get a hybrid car
- Use the cold cycle when you wash clothes
- Recycle
- Hang dry clothes
- Use energy-efficient light bulbs
So, are you looking to have a positive impact on the environment? If you’re switching to reusable grocery bags (which is great), you may want to also consider biking. Though many of these are very personal decisions and are not available to everyone, we can all do a little something to help out.
