A rising trend of uninsured drivers

Insurance is the safety net that all motorists rely on in the event of an accident. From a fender-bender to a totaled vehicle, insurance is the resource many people use to recover from the damages. Despite the value insurance offers drivers, there has been an increase in the number of uninsured drivers in recent years.

A recent survey confirms that one in eight drivers does not have insurance. This means that if an uninsured driver got into an accident, any costs they were liable for would come out of their pocket. If they cannot afford these costs, there is very little a victim could do to collect their compensation.

Why drivers do not get insurance

While there are many reasons to have insurance, there are also reasons that drivers do not have it. For example:

  • It can be expensive: Depending on the driving history of the car owner, and even the make and model of a car, insurance premiums can be expensive for some people. These people may see this cost as non-essential, and go without insurance, hoping to avoid an accident.
  • They are too busy: some drives decide they do not have the time to find a reliable insurance company and go without insurance until they find one.
  • Skepticism: there are people out there who genuinely believe that they cannot get into an accident, and therefore do not need insurance. These people often encounter a rude awakening in their first accident without insurance.
  • Lack of faith: when a driver does not believe in the value of insurance, they are more likely not to have it. It is only when they need the benefit of insurance that they understand its value.

No matter what reason someone has for not having insurance, it does not outweigh the cost of going without insurance.

Do not become a statistic

You do not have to be one of the thousands of drivers that risks the recovery of themselves and other drivers after an accident. Insurance is a valuable tool in moving forward after an accident that everyone should have.
