As avid cyclists here in Los Angeles may be very aware of, the city can pose many challenges for those who opt to travel on two wheels instead of four. This includes safety challenges. Just how serious the situation is for Los Angeles cyclists is underscored in a recent study.
The study ranked 790 U.S. cities for bicycle safety. Numerous things were looked at, including factors regarding cycling-related laws, infrastructure, fatality numbers and commuter statistics.
Two top 10 lists came out of the study. The first was a list of the 10 safest cities for cyclists. The second was a list of the 10 most dangerous cities.
Unfortunately, Los Angeles topped the second list. It was ranked the No. 1 most dangerous U.S. city for cyclists. It was the only California city to make the most dangerous list. California cities were actually a much more common sight on the safest cities list, holding six of the 10 spots.
The study points to Los Angeles having a particularly long way to go when it comes to improving bicycle safety, compared to other California cities. What would you most like to see Los Angeles do to try to move in the right direction on this front?
As this report reflects, it is not uncommon for cyclists to encounter safety hazards in Los Angeles. These hazards sometimes lead to serious accidents. When cyclists have been hurt out on the city’s roads, it can be important for them to seek out the help and support of attorneys who understand the unique issues that can come up for cyclists when it comes to personal injury claims.
