Why do motorists have road rage toward cyclists?

One thing that many motorcyclists recognize is the disdain that some drivers have for them. Some cyclists have to deal with a considerable amount of undesired behavior from motorists. While this is more common in urban areas, it also occurs in rural areas.

Unfortunately, the aggression from drivers can sometimes lead to slamming into cyclists or running them off the road. Cyclists can suffer injuries when this occurs, and those injuries can lead to them needing care at the hospital.

Road rage is an issue

Road rage is a major problem for cyclists. This is partially because drivers may think the bicyclist is slowing them down or that the cyclist is taking up too much of the travel lane. Some drivers don’t realize the right-of-way laws that apply to bicyclists. All drivers should take proactive steps to help keep bicyclists safe on the roadways.

Some incidents are accidents, but they’re preventable

There are some incidents between cyclists and vehicles that are truly accidents. Dooring is one example of this. Dooring occurs when a car door is opened in the path of the bicyclist and the bicyclist is injured. Techniques, such as the Dutch reach, can help to prevent those injuries.

Bicyclists who are dealing with injuries because of a negligent or aggressive driver may opt to pursue a compensation claim. This can help them to cover expenses, such as lost time at work and medical care costs. These claims are time-sensitive, so victims must act quickly if they’re going to file a claim.
